Vertical Village is World Building 2015

In its 8th year, the World Architecture Festival has once again thrown some great international projects back into the spotlight. Not least this year’s winner, the 31 stacked blocks of The Interlace.

Judges at the Festival in Singapore agreed the top prize should go to the “vertical village”, designed by the Rotterdam-based Office for Metropolitan Architecture and Buro Ole Scheeran. It’s an amazing concept and the guys at EngineRoom were also impressed by its “radical and alternative approach to tropical living”.

The WAF awards team said the project was “blazing a trail with an example of bold, contemporary architectural thinking,” and it presented “an alternative way of thinking about developments which might otherwise become generic tower clusters.”

At only six stories tall, we think it’s an intriguing piece of design on paper, we hope it’s as impressive in the flesh! Well done OMA, looks like you’ll be getting value from the €20K entry fee for the awards!
